Keratosis is a skin disorder that is caused by growth of keratin on the skin. The growth of keratin is a result of overproduction of the protein which is essential for the production of hair and nails. Keratin is produced by special cells known as keratinocytes which are found in the skin. This explains why there is presence of keratin on the skin.
Keratosis affects different body parts like the face, the neck, upper arm and hands. This skin disorder can however not be found on parts of the body with glabrous skin. This includes parts like the soles of the feet and the palms of the hands.

One of the major treatments for keratosis is keratosis cream. Keratosis cream is used as a topical treatment. One of the components of keratosis cream is salicylic acid. This cream works by purifying the cells and also decongesting the hair follicles. The cream eliminates debris and plugs of keratin and also dead skin tissues. Keratosis cream is very effective as it activates the generation of new skin cells. It also brings out the moisturizing elements of the skin.
Keratosis cream makes the blemishes on your skin more clear and the scars become less conspicuous. Other than keratosis cream, there are other treatment options for keratosis. Glycolic acid can also be used in treating keratosis. Since it is an acid, it needs to be diluted. It is best used at a concentration of 30%. This is skin friendly according to the doctors. This is then put in a spray bottle and sprayed on the growths at least twice a day.
Curettage is also a remedy. A doctor will use an instrument that is shaped like a spoon to cut off the growths. This method is never effective when used alone.
Electrocautery involves the use of electric charge to get rid of the growths. The charge used is normally of low voltage and is sent to a needle tip and then used to burn the growth. Anesthesia is always used to ensure that the process is not painful to the patient.
Laser treatments are also used in treating keratosis. The growths are exposed to light of high intensity and the work is done. Lasers are very effective and most people prefer it. However, laser treatments are very expensive.
